Alessandro Sciamarelli

Director of Economic Studies and Market Analysis / European Steel Association (EUROFER)

Alessandro Sciamarelli holds the position of Director of Economic Studies and Market Analysis at the European Steel Association (EUROFER) based in Brussels, where he carries out economic research and analysis linked to the steel sector. Prior to joining EUROFER, he held for over ten years equivalent positions at other Brussels-based European associations (namely in the mortgage lending sector and the cement sector) and, before that, he worked for the Economic Studies Office of a leading cement and construction group in Rome and for the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) in Maastricht. He holds a PhD in Economics (1999) and a degree in political science (1995) from the University of Pisa, Italy.

Alexander Gordienko was born in Russia. He graduated in economics and management from N. Novgorod University. After his graduation, he worked in banking in Russia and the UK. In 1999, he joined Stemcor. In 2009, he began working at Celsa Group where he currently continues his career as an export director.

Alexander Gordienko was born in Russia. He graduated in economics and management from N. Novgorod University. After his graduation, he worked in banking in Russia and the UK. In 1999, he joined Stemcor. In 2009, he began working at Celsa Group where he currently continues his career as an export director.

Daniel Gros

Member of the Board / Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS)

Daniel Gros is Distinguished Fellow and Member of the Board of the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS). He has been the director of CEPS between 2000 and 2020. In 2020, he held a Fulbright fellowship and was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2022 he was visiting Research Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre of the European University Institute, Florence. Gros is also currently an adviser to the European Parliament. Gros previously worked at the International Monetary Fund and collaborated with the European Commission as economic adviser to the Delors Committee, which developed plans for the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union. He has been a member of high-level advisory bodies to the French and Belgian governments and advised numerous central banks and governments, including Greece, the United Kingdom, and the United States at the highest political level. He has published extensively on international economic affairs, including on monetary and fiscal policy, exchange rates, banking, and climate change. He is the author of several books and editor of Economie Internationale and International Finance. He has taught at several leading European universities and contributes a globally syndicated column on European economic issues to Project Syndicate. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.

Huseyin Ocakci

Huseyin Ocakci, general manager of the Middle East region for CIEC, has 22 years of experience in foreign steel trade. Having worked as foreign trade manager at Turkish mills, Mr. Ocakçı is now responsible for business development at Hangzhou CIEC International Co. for the Middle East region.

João Paulo Fragoso

Pig Iron Export Manager / Kéntron Ltda

João Paulo Fragoso graduated in business administration and has a master’s degree in international business from Fundação Getulio Vargas in Brazil. He has been working at Kentron Ltda, a leading pig iron export company in Brazil for over 14 years. João Paulo began his career as a pig iron sales representative to Brazilian foundries and steel mills and was soon promoted to develop the company’s international pig iron sales structure. Currently, he is responsible for Kentron’s domestic and international sales, selling over 2.5 million tons of pig iron per year.

João Paulo Fragoso graduated in business administration and has a master’s degree in international business from Fundação Getulio Vargas in Brazil. He has been working at Kentron Ltda, a leading pig iron export company in Brazil for over 14 years. João Paulo began his career as a pig iron sales representative to Brazilian foundries and steel mills and was soon promoted to develop the company’s international pig iron sales structure. Currently, he is responsible for Kentron’s domestic and international sales, selling over 2.5 million tons of pig iron per year.

Ramy Saleh

Chief Business Development Officer / El Marakby Steel

Ramy Saleh, Chief Business Development Officer El Marakby steel since end of 2016 serving the sustainable growth of the group. Prior to that Ramy worked for several multinational and international firms within the steel and construction industries for almost 20 years among them ArcelorMittal, EZZ steel, Kandil steel and Orascom Construction Industries. Ramy has worked in many fields in both the technical and commercial areas within the steel industry such as production, quality control, products development, export sales, foreign purchasing and projects management before focusing on strategies related to sales, marketing, export, international business, sustainability and business development functions. He has previously spoken on behalf of the Egyptian steel industry in many events globally and locally. He holds an MBA ‘12 from the American University in Cairo (AUC) and a Bachelor of metallurgy and material science engineering ‘03 from the Specialized Faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering Suez University, Egypt. Ramy is also a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.
