Ahmet Ozkan was born in 1976 in Istanbul and graduated from Galatasaray High School in 1994. After graduating from the Department of Business Administration at Bogazici Univeristy, he started his professional career in 1999. He worked at the inspections departments of Arthur Andersen and Ernst&Young, before joining the family business Dempaş Demir Inc. in 2005. He is married with three children.
Alexander M. Julius is the founder and managing partner of macroMETAL Handelsgesellschaft mbH, which has been servicing mainly European steel consumers with quality products since 1996 as a mill-independent supplier. He is active as presidency member in EUROMETAL and various German committees linked to international trade & service. Since 2003 he has worked as a managing partner of the company Envitec Engineering GmbH with environmental technologies and regenerative energies as well as the construction of recycling plants.
Anthony de Carvalho joined the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2006. Anthony is Head of the OECD Steel Unit, which is a dynamic team of economists and policy analysts that serve the OECD Steel Committee, an intergovernmental forum for dialogue on challenges facing the global steel industry and policy approaches to promote open markets and a level playing field for steel. Since 2016, Mr. de Carvalho has also been serving the G20 Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity, whose 28 members are developing and implementing policy solutions to address excess capacity in the global steel sector. Prior to joining the OECD, Anthony worked as an economist at the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA), in Helsinki, Finland, where he did macroeconomic and commodity price forecasting, and was editor of the Institute’s quarterly publications The Finnish Economy and Society and International Economic Outlook. Anthony received his Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University in 2000. His areas of specialization during his doctoral studies were international economics, industrial organization and monetary economics. Anthony is a citizen of the United States and Portugal.
After graduating from the Faculty of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Middle East Technical University (METU), Ayhan Uçar obtained MSc and Ph.D. degrees in the same discipline respectively; and he started his professional career in 1996. Ayhan Uçar, who has more than 25 years of experience in the iron and steel industry, started his career in Process, R&D, and Quality Engineering departments; and continued at the senior management levels in CTS, Raw Material Planning and Market Research Strategies and Raw Material Purchasing departments. Uçar has been working as the Procurement Director at Tatmetal Çelik since 2018.
After obtaining his bachelor’s degree from the Department of International Relations at Istanbul University, Dr. Barış Esen completed his master’s degree in regional and strategic studies at Galatasaray University and subsequently received his doctorate in politics and international relations from Istanbul University. Dr. Esen started journalism and broadcasting at the CNN Türk foreign news bureau in 2004. He worked as a reporter, editor and presenter at SKY Türk during 2005-2010. He started working at Bloomberg HT as a presenter-editor in 2010 when it was founded. As of February 2023, he continues his career as corporate communications director at Yatırım Finansman.
Mr. Yayan got B.A. degrees from Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University in 1977 and Faculty of Law of the Istanbul University in 1987. Then he got his PhD degree from the Istanbul University Faculty of Economics in 1997. Mr. Yayan has diplomas from University of Michigan on Economy of Development and Population; from the University of Sussex on Labor Market Information System and Japan Int. Coop. Agency on Development and improvement of Employment. Mr. Veysel Yayan started his career as Reporter at the Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Trade in 1976. Then he worked at State Planning Organization, as Expert and Undersecretariat of Defense Industries, as Head of Department, Deputy Undersecretary and Acting Undersecretary until he retired in 1998. After serving 22 years for government from expert to Undersecretary levels between 1976-1998, he was appointed as Secretary General to the Turkish Steel Producers Association in 1998. On 25 September 2017, Dr. Yayan was appointed as Undersecretary to Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. In August 2018, Yayan retired from government and returned to his position as Secretary General of Turkish Steel Producers Association. In addition to this position, Dr. Yayan has been the President of TOBB Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals Assembly since 2007.
Gizem Öztok Altınsaç is regarded as one of the well-known market-savvy economists in Turkey. She started her professional career as an Economist in Garanti Securities (Garanti Bank-BBVA) in 2004. Following her 13 years in Garanti Securities as Chief Economist, she carried her career as a Research Director in Actus Asset Management under Global Investment Holdings, between the years 2017-2020. She is currently Chief Economist at TUSIAD and also founder of GOA Consultancy, an advisory company in the field of banking sector and financial markets. Since 2011, she perfoms as a professional commentator on BloombergHT twice a week in the programs “First Word” and “Global Markets”. Also being an adjunct professor in graduate and undergraduate programs at Ozyeğin University, and Sabanci University, she is lecturing in the fields; Behavioral Finance, Macroeconomic Forecasting and the Demistifying Turkish Macroeconomic Data. Before starting her 18 years of professional life, she received her MA degree in Economics from Marmara University in 2001. She continued her education for a BS degree in Economics in Bilkent University and completed her graduate education in Economics in Marmara University.
Kaan Sarnıç was born in Istanbul in 1967. After completing his high school education at Haydarpaşa High School, he graduated from the Industrial Engineering Department of Yıldız Technical University in 1989. He started working at Kibar Holding in 1990 and assumed the roles of engineer and manager in the production, planning and sales departments. In 2012, he joined Assan Demir as deputy general manager. He has been steel service center director at Yücel Boru Profil since 2015. In this position, he is responsible for sales of almost all the different flat steel products consumed in Turkey. His major competencies are organization and business development. Sport is an essential part of his life: his hobbies include rowing, sailing, windsurfing and skiing. He is married and has one child.
Metin Tayfun was born in Istanbul in 1955. He completed his high school education in Virginia, US. In 1977, received his mechanical engineering degree, followed by a master’s degree in industrial engineering, both from Texas A&M University. His work experience covers 3.5 years at Amoco Production in Texas, two years at Colakoglu Metalurji, then 26 years at companies including Borusan Group, Monroe Shockabsorbers, Caterpillar and Mannesmann Pipe. In 2010, he joined Colakoglu Metalurji as the company switched its production from long products to mainly flat products. He is a founding member of both the Thrace Industrialists Association and of Turkey’s Construction Machinery Industry Association, and is a board member of the Automotive Suppliers Association of Turkey (TAYSAD). He is also the chairman of Turkey’s Association of Flat Steel Exporters and Manufacturers (YISAD).
Roland Döhrn, born 1954, was head of the division “Macroeconomic and Public Finance” at the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic research in Essen and professor at University Duisburg Essen. After his retirement in 2020 he works as independent researcher. He received a diploma in economics from the University of Mainz and a Ph. D. from the University of Bochum. From 1978 he works at RWI. His main research interests are business cycles analyses and short term forecasting. From 2002 t0 2019 he led the RWI team at the “Gemeinschaftsdiagnose” (joint forecast for the ministry of economics). In addition, he has published various analyses of the steel market, in particular an annual steel market report (RWI Stahlbericht).
Born in Antakya in 1968, Hakan Aran graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Computer Engineering Department of the Middle East Technical University. He completed his master's degree in Business Administration at Başkent University and he is currently continuing his PhD in Banking at İstanbul Commerce University. Beginning his career at İşbank as a Software Specialist in 1990, Aran was appointed as the Head of Software Development Department in 2005. He was promoted to the position of Deputy Chief Executive responsible for operations, digital banking and technology in 2008 and took part in important transformation programs of the Bank. Appointed as İşbank's 17th Chief Executive Officer on 1 April 2021, Mr. Aran also serves as the Chairperson of Trakya Yatırım Holding A.Ş. and İşbank AG.
Sevban Yaşar was born in 1982 in Karadeniz Ereğli. Having completed high school, he graduated from the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Faculty at Yıldız Technical University in 2006. He started working at Çınar Boru Profil San.ve Tic. A.Ş in 2007, while he received his MBA in 2008 from Maltepe University. He has occupied the position of sales and marketing manager at Çınar Boru since 2017. He is married with two children.
