The roots of Çolakoğlu’s commercial operations reach back to an iron & steel trade shop that Mehmet Rüştü Çolakoğlu founded in İstanbul’s Karaköy district in 1945. Çolakoğlu’s first rolling mill commenced operations in Sütlüce, also in İstanbul, in 1960. To address its need for billets, in 1968 Çolakoğlu established its first steel mill in Dilovası. Çolakoğlu Metalurji expanded its product line with the introduction of wire rod in 1985 and with the addition of ribbed rebar in 1990. With the steelworks and hot-rolled coil production investments that were initiated in 2005 and with the commissioning of its hot-rolling mill in 2010, Çolakoğlu Metalurji became one of the pioneer firms in Turkey’s iron & steel industry. Our mills are capable of producing an extensive lineup of HRC products ranging from thicknesses of 1.1 mm to 25.4 mm and from widths of 800 mm to 1,650 mm suitable for cold-forming at one end and to petroleum pipe on the other. During its first half-century of existence, Çolakoğlu Metalurji’s production consisted only of so-called “long products”–billets, rebar, wire rod, and ribbed coils. With the commissioning of its new investments in 2010, the company began shifting some of its production capacity away from long products and turning its attentions to flat products with higher added-value products suitable for manufacturing tubing & pipes, automotive components (including rims), agricultural tools, and machinery and construction equipment. The company has achieved significant progress especially in the homologation of its automotive components and wheel rims. Atakas Steel’s production facilities are located in the Hatay region of Turkey and produces pickled, cold rolled, galvanized and pre-painted coils, with an annual output capacity of 1.2 million metric tons at high-tech equipment. Atakas Group has also a seaport which enables it to better serve overseas customers and a steel service center which produces cut-to-length and slit material for domestic customers. The company exports half of its production to markets in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and North America.

MMK Metalurji, Russia-based MMK Group’s investment in Turkey, provides services in the Iskenderun and Gebze regions, on the back of total investment costs of approximately $2.5 billion. MMK Group, which has been supplying raw materials to Turkish industry for many years, believes in Turkey’s bright future and so decided to make an investment in Turkey as of 2006. Its Turkish facilities started production in March 2010 with a planned capacity of 2.5 million metric tons of liquid steel and in March 2011 its facilities in Turkey switched to full operation. In addition, company has precision cut-to-length and sliced material production as steel service center with its 40 years of experience in the sector.
