Alex Gordienko was born in Russia. He graduated in economics and management from N. Novgorod University. After his graduation, he worked in banking in Russia and the UK. In 1999, he joined Stemcor. In 2009, he began working at Celsa Group where he currently continues his career as an export director.
Anastasiia Kononenko has over 13 years of experience in steel and raw materials market analyses and price reporting primarily in the markets of SE Asia, China, India and the CIS. She joined SteelOrbis (Turkey) in 2019 to head and manage the market intelligence department, overlooking the price developments in the steel and raw material markets of Asia and the CIS. The global markets of pig iron, billet, slabs, longs and the analysis of the Asian exports development and potential are among the current key responsibilities. A graduate to Ukraine’s Dnipro National University, a master’s degree in the journalism and economy.
Frank Pothen is a professor of economics at the University of Applied Sciences (Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule) in Jena, Germany. His applied techno-economic research supports the transformation of energy-intensive industries towards climate neutrality and closed material cycles for more than ten years. His work focuses on steel recycling and the steel industry as well as on the analysis of global value chains. Having worked at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), the Leibniz University Hannover, and two Fraunhofer Institutes, Frank Pothen has developed and applied models of international trade as well as of individual markets.
The economic environment for the global steel industry is challenging. Geopolitical hotspots such as the war between Russia and Ukraine or the conflict in the Middle East are hampering the necessary recovery. In addition, technological trends such as the move towards e-mobility and Artificial Intelligence are significantly changing the demand for steel products. The trade war with key partners triggered by the US is an additional burden. Nevertheless, significant opportunities are also seen in the medium term.
Jiang Li has been the Chief Analyst at Baosteel since 2009, with over 30 years of experience in the steel industry. Throughout her career, she has had the opportunity to serve in various roles, including as a visiting analyst and fellow with organizations such as the World Steel Association, CISA, and World Steel Dynamics. Since 2020, she has also been the Chief Analyst at CISA and actively contributes to the Economics Committee of the World Steel Association.
Ramy Saleh, Chief Business Development, Export, Marketing and Sustainability Officer El Marakby steel since end of 2016 serving the sustainable growth of the group for almost a decade now. Prior to that Ramy worked for several multinational and international firms within the steel and construction industries for 22 years among them ArcelorMittal, EZZ steel, Kandil steel and Orascom Construction Industries. Ramy has worked in many fields in both the technical and commercial areas within the steel industry such as production, quality control, products development, export sales, foreign purchasing and projects management before focusing on strategies related to sales, marketing, export, international business, sustainability and business development functions. He has previously spoken on behalf of the Egyptian steel industry in many events globally and locally. He holds an MBA ‘12 from the American University in Cairo (AUC) and a Bachelor of metallurgy and material science engineering ‘03 from the Specialized Faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering Suez University, Egypt. Ramy is also a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Egypt.
